Chance Ecologies – Site-specific Installation Tour

154A2723

On Sunday August 16th, Chance Ecologies continued its monthlong series of events with a walking tour led by artist Marisa Tesauro, exploring her site-specific installations situated in various spaces throughout the project site. Working with landfill materials found onsite, Tesauro created a series of architectural maquettes, alluding to the past structures that remain embedded in this landscape and the ongoing artificial creation of habitable space in the area.

Some of these sculptures remain installed on site, for visitors to stumble upon and witness their slow disintegration.

During the month of August, an ongoing series of events and installations are being organized for Chance Ecologies, leading up to a winter exhibit at Radiator Gallery.

Chance Ecologies – Sunset Viewing

IMG-20150809-WA0002
On August 9th, 2015, Chance Ecologies launched a series of events celebrating the wild ecology of Long Island City, Queens. The inaugural event was a public art project in which handmade posters were distributed throughout the nearby community, inviting visitors to participate in a sunset viewing onsite. Visitors were then led by an artist on a silent walk, just after dusk.

During the month of August, a series of events and installations are being organized for Chance Ecologies, leading up to a winter exhibit at Radiator Gallery.

Announcing Chance Ecologies

chance_background_01

We are happy to announce the launch of Chance Ecologies – a new public art project bringing together a coalition of artists and thinkers to creatively explore and document a large plot of publicly-owned land in Long Island City, Queens. Over the last 35 years, an unplanned ecology has taken root in this fenced-off post-industrial landscape, which will soon be razed to make way for a new residential development.

Chance Ecologies is curated by Catherine Grau, Nathan Kensinger and Stephen Zachs. During the month of August, we will be organizing a series of events celebrating this wild site, leading up to a winter exhibit at Radiator Gallery.
